I now have 8 chinchillas which live in the room where I teach. They have as a result become extremely comfortable with people, quite unusual for chinchillas. They do not like being held but will accept being stroked or fed by hand. They are beautiful, intelligent creatures which are sadly under threat of extinction in the wild.
Keeping Chinchillas
Chinchillas are clean, quiet, odourless and attractive rodents that were originally bred and farmed for their soft dense fur. They need careful handling and patience, and are not good pets for children as they sleep during the day, generally do not like being handled, and bite often.
I board small pets for £1 per animal per day. The money raised for boarding goes directly to the education charity Porridge and Rice that works among the extreme poor living in the Nairobi slums.
In addition, if you have small animals that you no longer can care for, regardless of the reason, I will happily take them in and rehome them. If I cannot find them a new, good home, they will live their days out at The Farm at 64.
